The Grounds Team at the University of Coventry
have recently been presented with the Cecil Angel Cup. The
Cecil Angel cup is awarded to staff or students of the University,
either individually or on a group basis, for significant
contribution to the development and/or wellbeing of the University
and the wider community, and/or significant enhancement of the
reputation of the institution.
The Team took their place in the Cathedral,
along with graduates from the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences,
at the University Awards Ceremony in November for the presentation
of the Cecil Angel cup.
The Estates' Grounds team is responsible for the maintenance of
the University campus, Westwood Heath sports grounds and the
Technology Park and for ensuring that these areas are always
welcoming, clean, green and safe for staff, students and
The small team has transformed the appearance of the campus and
made a major contribution towards the University, recently
receiving a number of prestigious awards, including a Platinum
status in the Ecocampus awards, and Finalist status in the Green
The team have also supported the Coventry's entry into Britain
in Bloom for five years and played a pivotal role in achieving the
Gold awards that have been awarded during this period.
In 2014 the work of the team was nationally acknowledged by the
award of the prestigious Green Flag for central campus - joining
only another 10 universities across the UK with this

Phil Osborne, Reg Worrall, Wendy Townsend, David Jacques, Kenny
Grinel, Stephen Beasley, Ken Atkins.
Since the announcement of the Cecil Angel cup award the team
have also won one of only nine Special Awards for Innovation given
in 2014 by the Green Flag Awards Scheme.
The Special Awards for Innovation are presented to parks and
green spaces that can show that they have made changes which have
brought outstanding benefits to both their site and their local
community. They are also deemed to be inspirational in their
commitment to continuous improvement.
